NextStep Placement Services connects approved housing partners with individuals and veterans navigating behavioral health and housing instability. We believe the right placement is one where both the resident and the provider can succeed — and we work to make that happen.
We don't place clients into housing — we match people with partners. That distinction matters. NSPS works only with housing providers who understand the populations we serve, share our commitment to dignity and stability, and are equipped to provide a safe, supportive environment.
For our part, we ensure every placement is set up for success. That means thorough pre-screening, verified income, documented support coordination, and an NSPS coordinator who remains accessible throughout the placement.
A safe, clean, and private or appropriately shared space. Consistent, fair lease terms. Willingness to communicate with NSPS coordinators. Respect for the dignity and privacy of residents at all times.
Pre-verified income documentation before placement. A dedicated NSPS coordinator for every placement. Proactive 7-day and 30-day check-ins. Honest communication if a placement isn't working — before it becomes a problem.
NSPS does not work with providers whose primary motivation is occupancy over outcome. If a placement environment cannot support the stability of a resident navigating behavioral health challenges, it is not the right fit — for them or for us.
Every placement we make should work for both the resident and the housing partner. We do not sacrifice one for the other. If a match isn't right, we'd rather take more time than make the wrong one.
NSPS operates two distinct programs, each serving a specific population with unique needs. Understanding who you'd be housing is essential — and we want you to feel fully informed before applying.
We serve veterans navigating housing instability, often following discharge from VA facilities, transitional programs, or crisis placements. Many have co-occurring behavioral health needs alongside strong community ties and structured support systems.
We serve individuals transitioning from inpatient psychiatric care, residential treatment, or crisis stabilization. These are people working toward independence — many with documented income, active outpatient engagement, and a case management team already in place.
Approved NSPS housing partners gain access to a steady, pre-screened referral pipeline, income verification support, and an ongoing coordination relationship that protects both the resident and the provider.
Every placement comes with documented income verification. You know what you're working with before a resident moves in.
A named NSPS coordinator is assigned to every placement and remains a direct point of contact throughout the housing relationship.
Proactive 7-day and 30-day check-ins for every placement. Issues are identified early — not after they escalate.
We only refer clients to partners whose environment and capacity are a genuine fit. We won't place a resident in a situation set up to fail.
Approved partners are listed in our active partner network. When vacancy exists, you're the first we call.
We will tell you when a placement isn't working and help find a resolution — before it becomes a crisis for anyone involved.
